The Procedure for Fireproofing a Building

When a business owner is considering having his establishment fireproofed, it is not unusual for him or her to wonder about the process involved. Many times, owners may come to the incorrect conclusion that flameproofing a building will take a lot of time and will require a complicated process. However, that is far from the truth. We realize a business owner desires to know what will take place on his property, to his building. Today, we want to clear up any misconceptions regarding the procedure for applying a fire retardant. Typically taking just one day to accomplish, fireproofing a business establishment is a relatively easy yet effective process.
To understand the flameproofing process, it is important to know what we do and do not do. When NYC Flameproofing arrives at a business establishment to perform a fireproofing treatment, we do not apply the spray to the actual building itself; the items inside the building receive the flame resistant spray. Should an unfortunate fire occur, the spread of fire is decelerated and hopefully prevented due to materials that have been applied with fire retardant treatments.
Any wood or fabric item in the building is treated with a special, water-based flame retardant that is approved by the FDNY. The treatment is applied either by an electric sprayer or a hand pump, This treatment takes place when the building is vacated – hours when both customers and employees are not there. In preparation, we move certain items out of the spraying location and place disposable plastic on the walls, floors and any other location that needs to be protected.
In general, more flame retardant is needed to treat wooden items as compared to fabric. The flameproofing spray that we use can be applied to both wood and fabric, either before or after they are installed. It should be noted that if a customer wants both sides of the wood to be applied with fire repellent spray, the application must occur prior to installation.
Even though flameproofing a building is a fairly fast and easy procedure, the value of this should not be underestimated. This treatment is absolutely vital in stopping or slowing a fire should one ever occur. We guarantee the effectiveness of everything that we fireproof, and we always treat with care any other item that is not being treated. We hope that you will allow NYC Flameproofing to assist you in ensuring that your property is as safe as humanly possible from the devastation of a fire.
